Rachakonda : In a shocking incident, a six year old girl was badly injured after her throat was slit by Chinese Manjha while she was along with her father travelling on a bike. The incident happened on Nagole Flyover Bridge on Friday. A call was received at Chaithanyapuri police station regarding a girl who got injured with a string at Nagole Flyover. The injured girl was rushed to the Rainbow Hospital where surgery was done to her neck and she is recovering. A case under Section 308 of the Indian Penal Code was booked and investigation of the case is in progress. Chinese Manjha, which is a glass-coated kite string, has been blamed for several deaths and serious injuries on those travelling on two-wheelers in the past as well.
It is not just humans that are getting injured from the broken strings that are left behind. Thousands of birds are also killed or have their wings and legs cut off after getting entangled in Chinese manjha. The broken strings that are discarded by kite-flyers are also known to kill or seriously injure a large number of birds. In 2017 the National Green Tribunal (NGT) imposed a complete ban on the production, storage, and sale of Chinese manjha as it not only poses a threat to birds and humans but also causes harm to the environment. Taking a serious view. Mr. DS Chouhan IPS, Commissioner of Police. Rachakonda ordered for special drive to conduct raids on the shops which were selling Chinese manjha and to book cases. The CP instructed DCPS. ACPS and Inspectors to ensure the total disappearance of Chinese manjha from the kite selling shops.
Complying the instructions of the commissioner, a special drive was organised, all the field officers plunged into action, went heavily on kite sellers who were selling Chinese Manjha. Total 57 cases were booked against 65 persons under 188, 336 IPC & Sec 5 & 15 Environmental Act-1986 in which843 bobbins and 966 pouches of chinese manjha of approximately more than 25,000 meters were seized. The Commissioner of Police seriously warned the kite sellers that they would be made directly responsible and cases would be booked against them if anyone gets injury with Chinese manjha.
