Tiruvallur: In Atthipat, Tiruvallur district, the Vadachennai and Vallur Thermal Power Stations generate electricity by burning coal. The coal ash produced from this process is collected near the thermal power stations and transported by trucks to cement and hollow block stone factories. Every day, residents suffer from the waste spread by these trucks. In Meenjoor, ashes from a speeding lorry were scattered throughout the bazaar. As vehicles drove over the scattered ashes, they were sent into the air, turning the entire Meenjoor Bazaar into a cloud of dust. This caused significant difficulties for motorists, traders, and the public. There is a growing demand for the police to take appropriate action against these heavy trucks transporting waste without covering it with tarpaulin.
