Karnataka, Bengaluru City: In a significant breakthrough, officers from the CEN Police Station in South Zone have arrested four individuals for orchestrating a sophisticated fraud scheme on the Porter App. The accused were involved in creating fake identity cards for both customers and drivers, enabling them to manipulate the system. They used these fraudulent IDs to place fake orders, with the drivers being paid by the company for services that were never rendered. The orders would later be canceled, and the fake customers would receive refunds as part of the company’s standard procedure, completing the cycle of fraud.
The investigation revealed that over the last eight months, the group managed to siphon off ₹90 lakh through this scheme. The fraudulent activities not only exploited loopholes in the app’s payment and refund processes but also highlighted the vulnerabilities in digital identity verification. The police, with the help of cyber forensic tools, tracked the transactions and unmasked the culprits. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of strengthening security measures in online service platforms to prevent similar scams in the future.
