Tamil Nadu, Tirunelveli, May 8, 2025: In a decisive move to maintain public order and enhance community safety, the Tirunelveli District Police have detained two habitual offenders—Shankar Ganesh (33) and Maharajan (34), both residents of Kottarakkurichi in Veeravanallur—under the Goondas Act.
The two individuals were reportedly involved in a string of serious criminal activities, including attempted murder, assault, robbery, and fraud, and had been instilling fear among local residents through their repeated and brazen criminal behavior.
Following a detailed report submitted by Veeravanallur Police Inspector Sujith Anand, recommending action under Section 14 of the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders, Forest Offenders and Slum Grabbers Act (Goondas Act), a request was made to initiate preventive detention proceedings.
The proposal was reviewed and approved by District Superintendent of Police, Shri N. Silambarasan, IPS, and subsequently, the District Collector issued formal detention orders. On May 8, 2025, both accused were taken into custody and lodged in Palayamkottai Central Prison.
This action underscores the commitment of Tirunelveli Police to uphold law and order and prevent repeat offenders from disrupting the peace and safety of the public.
