Telangana: The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has intensified its crackdown on misleading advertisements of Ayurvedic medicines. In a recent action, the DCA seized stocks of ‘Neem Churnam’, an Ayurvedic product manufactured by Arogya Rama Herbals in the Medchal-Malkajgiri district.
The product was found to be marketed with unsubstantiated claims of curing fevers, violating the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. This law prohibits advertisements that claim to treat certain diseases and conditions, in order to protect the public from deceptive health marketing. Offenders can face imprisonment and fines.
This seizure is part of a broader effort by the DCA to curb the spread of false claims in the health product market. In another case, the DCA confiscated Ayurvedic medicines from a medical hall in Nalgonda that falsely claimed to cure conditions such as diabetes, kidney stones, and asthma.
The DCA has urged the public to remain cautious and to report any misleading health product advertisements to its toll-free helpline at 1800-599-6969. These actions highlight the importance of regulatory oversight in ensuring the safety and reliability of medical products available to consumers.
