Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Thiruvarur District Police seized 110 kg of ganja during a routine vehicle check near Needamangalam Mannargudi Utkottam. The contraband was being smuggled in an ambulance from Odisha via Andhra Pradesh to Thanjavur.
Two accused—Krishnan (37) of Karaikal and Kumar (43) of Adhirampattinam, Thanjavur district—were arrested on the spot. Based on the recommendation of District Superintendent of Police Mr. Karun Karat, IPS, both individuals were booked under the Goondas Prevention Act and lodged in Trichy Central Jail by the order of the Tiruvarur District Collector (15.06.2025).
SP Karun Karat emphasized that strict action will continue against those involved in drug trafficking, crimes against women and children, road rage, and sale of banned tobacco and liquor products. This operation underscores the commitment of the Thiruvarur Police in ensuring a drug-free and safe society.
