Anakapalli, Andhra Pradesh, June 26: On the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ witnessed a grand awareness rally at NTR Stadium, led by District Collector Smt. Vijaya Krishnan and District SP Shri Tuhin Sinha. The event aimed to inspire collective action toward building a drug-free society in Anakapalli district.

As chief guests, the Collector and SP inaugurated the program by visiting awareness stalls and galleries set up by the Police and Excise Departments, showcasing seized narcotics and highlighting the dangers of substance abuse. The event also featured cultural performances by GVMC Town High School students and DIET Engineering College, who conveyed powerful anti-drug messages through folk songs and drama.

In her address, District Collector Smt. Vijaya Krishnan emphasized the urgent need to tackle drug abuse at its roots. She highlighted the collective efforts of central and state governments in launching de-addiction initiatives and awareness drives targeting students and youth. “Drugs silently destroy families and futures. Our government has launched a special Eagle System to fight this threat effectively,” she stated.

SP Shri Tuhin Sinha presented an overview of the district’s strong crackdown on drug trafficking in 2025:

74 cannabis cases registered; 237 accused arrested

4,904 kg of cannabis, 5.39 liters of hashish oil, and 59 vehicles seized, total worth approx. ₹2.5 crore

11 persons booked under the PD Act, and 4 under PD/PIT NDPS Act

505 suspect sheets, 3 KD sheets, and 2 rowdy sheets opened

2,582 addicts treated, with 15-bed de-addiction facility functional

To intensify enforcement, the police have established 5 static and 38 dynamic checkpoints, and are using drones and trained sniffer dogs (Bunny and Rita) for surveillance. Awareness campaigns have reached 360 schools and 159 colleges, and 136 Anti-Drug Committees have been formed.

The Collector and SP administered an anti-drug pledge to all participants. This was followed by a massive rally from NTR Stadium to Pentakota Bhavan, involving students, NCC cadets, ASHA workers, Anganwadi staff, self-help groups, and government officials. The rally echoed slogans like:

“Say No to Drugs – Say Yes to Life”

“Stop Drugs – See Life as a Success”

“No Drugs – Kiss Health”

“Youth Intoxication – A Disaster for Society”

The event was graced by officials from Excise, Revenue, Medical & Health Departments, Education Department, Police personnel, and community representatives.

The Anakapalli District Police, in collaboration with various departments, continue to lead from the front in the fight against drugs—reinforcing their unwavering commitment to safeguarding youth and building a drug-free Andhra Pradesh.

For reporting drug-related activities, the public is encouraged to call 1972, 100/112, or 9392918196. Strict action will be taken based on credible information.
