Shimla, Himachal Pradesh: In a proud and momentous occasion, the Himachal Pradesh Police welcomed 26 IPS Probationers of the 77 RR Batch from the prestigious Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), Hyderabad, at the Police Headquarters in Shimla. The visit was part of their all-India Study-cum-Cultural Tour — an integral component of their rigorous training programme aimed at fostering practical insight and cultural exposure.
The young officers, who represent the future leadership of Indian policing, were given a detailed orientation on the functioning, structure, and strategic operations of the Himachal Pradesh Police. Senior officers of the department delivered presentations and interactive sessions covering a wide range of subjects such as community policing, drug control initiatives, traffic management in hill terrains, disaster response mechanisms, use of technology in policing, and eco-sensitive law enforcement practices unique to the region.
The visit also included a guided tour of key police facilities and heritage structures, offering the probationers a glimpse into the legacy and evolving nature of policing in the hill state. Special emphasis was laid on the challenges faced by the police force in mountainous and tourism-heavy regions, and the innovative measures adopted to ensure law and order, public safety, and effective emergency response.
Apart from professional engagements, the visit also had a cultural dimension. The probationers were given the opportunity to witness the rich heritage, traditional arts, and vibrant local culture of Himachal Pradesh — further enhancing their appreciation for regional diversity and people-centric policing.
Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, extended a warm welcome to the IPS trainees and encouraged them to uphold the highest standards of integrity, empathy, and professionalism in their future postings across the country. He also applauded the SVPNPA for nurturing a new generation of officers who are both intellectually equipped and socially conscious.
The visit concluded with a ceremonial exchange of mementoes and a group photograph at the historic Shimla Police Headquarters — a symbolic gesture of goodwill, learning, and unity in service.
The Himachal Pradesh Police takes immense pride in contributing to the formative journey of India’s future police leaders and remains committed to strengthening inter-state collaboration and knowledge-sharing across the country.
