Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: In a commendable display of prompt action and effective investigation, the Tirunelveli District Police successfully arrested a woman involved in a jewellery fraud case, where she posed as an Assistant Collector to deceive the public.
The accused, Sathyadevi (34), a resident of Nakkaneri near Radhapuram, had introduced herself as an Assistant Collector to Meghnadhana, a woman from Kariyakulam, and gained her trust. Later, she claimed that she required 100 sovereigns (pounds) of gold jewellery to secure a government contract job, falsely stating that she already possessed 90 sovereigns and needed just 10 more. Believing her words, Meghnadhana and her husband handed over 10 sovereigns of jewellery.
However, when the accused failed to return the jewellery or fulfill her promise, Meghnadhana lodged a complaint with District Superintendent of Police, Mr. N. Silambarasan, IPS. Acting swiftly on the complaint, Deputy Superintendent of Police Vijayakumar supervised the investigation, which was efficiently carried out by Inspector Annalakshmi, Assistant Inspector Asha Jebakar, and Head Constable Muthuramalingam of the District Crime Branch.
The investigation team successfully traced and arrested Sathyadevi, bringing her fraudulent activities to light. The swift and decisive action by the Tirunelveli Police has been widely appreciated by the public for ensuring justice and preventing further scams of this nature.
District Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan, IPS, has urged the public to remain cautious and verify the identity of individuals claiming to be government officials before engaging in any financial or official dealings.
