Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, December 18: As part of the ongoing “Abhyudayam Cycle Yatra” from Payakaraopet to Ichapuram, a major public awareness initiative against drugs, the rally reached the Madapam Toll Plaza under Narasannapeta Police Station limits on Thursday.
The cycle yatra team was cordially welcomed by Narasannapeta MLA Sri Baggu Ramanamurthy, Tekkali DSP Sri D. Lakshmana Rao, Narasannapeta Circle Inspector Sri M. Srinivasarao, along with public representatives, police personnel, local students, and citizens. The dignitaries greeted the team members with flower bouquets and appreciated their efforts in spreading awareness on drug eradication.
Addressing the gathering, the leaders and police officials called upon the people of Narasannapeta constituency, especially the youth, to actively participate in the anti-drug movement and support the police in building a drug-free society.
Officials highlighted that youth are the backbone and future of the nation, and their energy and potential must be safeguarded from the harmful influence of drugs. They emphasized that drug addiction not only destroys individuals but also deeply affects families and society. Educational institutions, parents, and the community must work in close coordination to prevent drug abuse.
The police also informed that de-addiction centers are functioning across the Visakhapatnam Range, and 244 individuals have already been successfully treated and rehabilitated. Demonstrating firm enforcement, police action over the past 16 months has led to the registration of 916 cases against drug smugglers and peddlers, with the seizure of 53,610 kg of ganja, 53 kg of hashish oil, and 635 vehicles.
The police appealed to the youth to choose the right friendships, stay disciplined, and cooperate with law enforcement to break the drug supply chain and secure a brighter future for themselves and the nation.
Concluding the program, the officials reaffirmed the message: “Away from drugs – Pride for the nation.”
