Chennai, Tamil Nadu, November 1, 2025: In a major breakthrough, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Chennai Zonal Unit, successfully apprehended Ravi @ Kamal Singh, a key absconding accused in a 2010 heroin trafficking case, after 15 years on the run.
In November 2010, NCB officers had seized 976 grams of heroin at a private bus terminus in Koyambedu, Chennai, and arrested three persons involved in smuggling the contraband to Sri Lanka. However, one of the main accused, Ravi @ Kamal Singh, who had allegedly supplied the drug from Pratapgarh, Rajasthan—a region known for opium cultivation—had absconded.
Following the seizure, a case was registered before the Hon’ble NDPS Court, Chennai. In June 2013, the Court convicted two accused and sentenced them to 10 years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with a fine of ₹4 lakh each, while one accused was acquitted. The case against Ravi @ Kamal Singh was split up as he remained untraceable.
Through sustained intelligence efforts and coordinated surveillance, the NCB Chennai team successfully located and arrested the absconding accused in Pratapgarh, Rajasthan. He was produced before the Hon’ble 2nd Additional NDPS Judge, Chennai, and remanded to judicial custody on 01.11.2025.
This arrest demonstrates NCB’s unwavering commitment to pursuing long-pending cases and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice, irrespective of the passage of time.
In recent months, NCB has also apprehended several other absconders — Navin Chichkar, Dhiraj Chickar, Siluvai Raj, and Lijo Jose — through close coordination with national and international enforcement agencies.
The Bureau urged citizens to join the fight against drug trafficking and support the vision of a Drug-Free India (Nasha Mukt Bharat). Members of the public can share information related to narcotic offences through the MANAS – National Narcotics Helpline (Toll-Free Number: 1933). The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
