On Saturday morning (March 25th), a 58-year-old temple priest located near Okhalipuram assisted the Kalasipalya police in apprehending a 25-year-old woman who had abducted a 42-day-old infant from Kalasipalya.

Nandini, also known as Ayesha, the wife of Asif and a resident of Shivajinagar but originally from Mulabagilu, was responsible for the abduction of a baby girl named Aayath from her home on Durgamma Street in Kalasipalya.

While the couples, Farheen and Nadeem Sheikh, were sleeping with their baby, the front door of their house was left open. The accused, Nandini alias Ayesha, entered the house, took the baby and a mobile phone, and fled the scene. After waking up a few minutes later and realizing that both the baby and the phone were missing, the mother informed her husband, who then filed a complaint with the police.

Following the abduction, the Kalasipalya police launched a search for the missing baby and issued an alert. The accused, Nandini alias Ayesha, was later discovered sitting outside Gangamma Mariyamma temple in Okalipuram near railway quarters. The temple priest, Bhoopalan, noticed her and asked about her situation. In response, she claimed to have lost her way and requested directions to Mangaluru.

After providing Nandini alias Ayesha with some food, Bhoopalan noticed that the baby was not moving for an extended period of time. Becoming suspicious, he obtained the phone number of her husband and contacted him. The individual on the other end of the line informed Bhoopalan that she had left the house after an argument. When asked about her current whereabouts, the accused provided a different address, leading Bhoopalan to become even more suspicious of her actions.

Bhoopalan’s quick thinking and intuition played a vital role in the safe recovery of the baby. His decision to contact Nandini alias Ayesha’s husband and involve his friends in questioning her helped to uncover her lies and ultimately led to her arrest. The police also commended Bhoopalan and his associates for their efforts in assisting with the apprehension of the accused and the rescue of the child. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable members of society.

Nandini alias Ayesha, a repeat offender known for stealing mobile phones, has been arrested by the police, who are investigating whether she is involved in a larger child kidnapping operation.
