Silchar, Assam – In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Cachar Police seized heroin worth ₹6.22 crore and arrested two accused in a special operation near Saptagram, Dholai.
Acting on credible intelligence, a police team intercepted a suspicious vehicle originating from Churachandpur, Manipur. Upon thorough inspection, 99 soap cases containing 1.22 kg of heroin were found concealed inside specially designed chambers of the vehicle.
The accused, identified as Michael Lairemruot and Merina Neitinphal, both residents of Churachandpur, were immediately taken into custody.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (Cachar) Shri Numol Mahatta, the drug detection kit confirmed the presence of heroin, and preliminary investigations reveal that the contraband was trafficked from Manipur for illegal distribution.
The operation is part of Cachar Police’s ongoing efforts to eliminate drug trafficking networks across inter-state borders. Further investigation is underway to trace the wider syndicate.
