Punjab, Bathinda: In an effort to combat straw burning and its harmful effects on the environment, the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Bathinda conducted an extensive tour across several villages within the district. This initiative aimed to directly address the rising incidents of stubble burning and actively engage with the local farming community.
During their visit, the Deputy Commissioner and SSP, accompanied by officials from the fire brigade, responded immediately to fires set by farmers. They worked to extinguish the burning hay on-site, showcasing a hands-on approach to tackling this critical issue.
In addition to extinguishing fires, the officials held discussions with the farmers, emphasizing the severe environmental and health hazards posed by stubble burning, including air pollution, respiratory problems, and soil degradation. They highlighted sustainable alternatives to straw burning, explaining how such practices contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment for the community. This visit underscored the administration’s commitment to raising awareness and promoting responsible agricultural practices to mitigate environmental pollution in the region.
