Vijayawada City, Andhra Pradesh, May 14, 2025 – The Vijayawada City Police paid heartfelt tribute to ‘Mikki’, a Labrador retriever and a veteran member of the Bomb Detection and Dog Squad, who passed away today due to age-related ailments. She was 13 years old.
A Lifelong Guardian
Born on May 6, 2012, Mikki served the city with unwavering commitment under the supervision of handler Mr. Nagaraju. Trained in explosives detection in Hyderabad, she was part of several critical security operations, especially during VIP visits, public gatherings, and high-alert events.
A Decorated Career of 11 Years
Mikki’s keen senses and discipline made her an invaluable asset. She played an instrumental role in securing Republic Day and Independence Day events, and her endearing gesture of presenting bouquets to dignitaries during ceremonial parades won many hearts.
For over 11 years, Mikki stood as the silent sentinel during high-security duties, including bomb sweeps ahead of celebrity visits and official functions, ensuring zero security breaches.
Honourable Retirement and Peaceful Farewell
Mikki was officially retired from active duty on May 17, 2024. Today, on May 14, 2025, she peacefully passed away. Her service remains a testament to the critical role of K9 units in maintaining public safety.
