Madurai, Tamil Nadu, June 5: The Vaikasi Grand Festival at Arulmigu Sri Jenagai Mariamman Temple in Sholavandhan, Madurai District, is underway with great spiritual fervor and vibrant celebrations. The 17-day festival commenced on Monday with the traditional flag hoisting and sacred thread tying ceremony, marking the beginning of daily processions featuring the Goddess in various vahanams (divine mounts) such as Simham (lion), Yaali, Kamadhenu, and Rishabham.
On the second day of the festival, the Goddess was majestically paraded on the Simha Vahanam. The event was organized under the arrangements of Mr. Mani Muthaiya, Mandakapadi bearer and village head of Poo Medu Street. At 9 a.m., the deity was brought from the temple and beautifully adorned in front of the Uchimakali Amman Temple, where she was honored with sprouted grain offerings (Mulaippari) and welcomed by the rhythmic beats of traditional drums, firecrackers, and colorful fireworks.
A large number of devotees gathered to witness the divine procession, including Dr. Maruthu Pandian, head of the Arima Sangam and administrator of Kalaivani School, who also received the Goddess’s blessings.
The temple’s executive officer and staff ensured smooth and well-coordinated arrangements for the day’s events, allowing the faithful to celebrate with devotion and joy.
The festival continues to draw large crowds daily, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and devotional spirit of the region.
