Dehradun, Uttarakhand: In response to the ongoing disaster in Uttarkashi, Governor Lt Gen (Retd.) Gurmit Singh today held a high-level review meeting at Raj Bhawan, where he was briefed by senior officials from the administration, police, Indian Army, and ITBP on the status of relief and rescue operations.
Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, the Governor stated that search, relief, and rescue operations remain the highest priority, and assured that there will be no shortage of resources. He instructed officials to evaluate machinery and equipment requirements on a priority basis and ensure rapid mobilization to the affected areas.
The Governor also acknowledged the support of the Government of India, which he said stands ready to extend all possible assistance during this critical period.
Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu reported that necessary teams and resources have been swiftly deployed, although adverse weather conditions are posing challenges to rescue efforts. He confirmed that personnel from the Army, ITBP, BRO, SDRF, and local police are actively engaged in ground-level operations.
Director General of Police Deepam Seth informed that over 300 police personnel, including senior IPS officers, have been dispatched to support the mission in the disaster-hit zone.
Meanwhile, Major General M.P.S. Gill, GOC Sub Area, confirmed that the Army helipad near Harshil remains operational, and once the weather clears, it will play a crucial role in expediting aerial search and rescue efforts.
The collective response reflects the unified commitment of armed forces, police, and civil administration to safeguard lives and extend timely support to those affected.
