Thrissur, Kerala: In a remarkable act of bravery and quick thinking, a police sub-inspector risked his own life to rescue an elderly tourist who had fallen into a gorge near the Sholayar Dam View Point.
The elderly man, a native of Kundamkulam Arthat, was visiting the scenic spot with his family when he slipped from the viewpoint and plunged nearly 15 feet down into a rocky gorge. He landed on a rock ledge, leaving his family members in panic. They immediately alerted the Malakkappara Police Station for help.
Responding without delay, a police team rushed to the spot under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Azad. Assessing the critical condition and realizing that waiting for the fire and rescue force could endanger the man’s life further, SI Azad made a courageous decision. Using a rope, he carefully descended into the steep and dangerous gorge, braving the risks of loose rocks and the sharp drop below.
After reaching the injured tourist, SI Azad, with the support of fellow police personnel, managed to secure the man and lift him safely back to the road. The family expressed deep gratitude to the police for their immediate and selfless action that saved the man’s life.
The daring rescue underscores the dedication, presence of mind, and bravery of Kerala Police personnel, who go beyond the call of duty to safeguard lives.
