Hyderabad City, Telangana: In view of the upcoming Sankranti festival, Hyderabad City Police have intensified a special enforcement drive against the sale, storage and transportation of banned Chinese Manja (synthetic/nylon kite string) to ensure public safety.
Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, Shri V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, noted that while Sankranti is celebrated as a festival of joy and kite-flying, the use of Chinese Manja poses serious risks to human life, birds and the environment. He reiterated that the Police Commissionerate will adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards violators and warned that strict criminal action will be taken against those involved in selling, purchasing or distributing Chinese Manja — including transactions made via online platforms and social media.
Citizens, particularly parents, were cautioned about injuries caused by Chinese Manja, including deep cuts, electric shock hazards and risks to children. The public has been urged to opt for safe, traditional cotton kite strings and to report violations by dialing 100 or via WhatsApp at 94906 16555.
