Kasaragod, Kerala: In a major breakthrough ahead of the Onam festival season, the Kasaragod Town Police have successfully foiled a large-scale spirit smuggling attempt, seizing 1,440 litres of illicit spirit in a swift and well-coordinated operation.
Acting on specific intelligence regarding possible activities of fake liquor manufacturing units targeting the Onam market, District Police Chief Mr. B. V. Vijaya Bharat Reddy IPS directed an immediate crackdown. Based on his instructions, a special team led by Kasaragod DySP Manoj V. V (in-charge) and Inspector Nalinakshan P launched a surprise raid and intercepted a vehicle disguised under the pretext of event management services.
The smugglers had attempted to mislead authorities by transporting the spirit in cans marked as water. However, the vigilance of the police led to the arrest of three individuals: Pranav Shenoy (24) from Nellikunnu, Anush R (24) from Thalipadapp, and V.C. Thomas (25) from Kanjirapally, Kottayam. All were taken into custody along with the vehicle used in the crime.
The arrest was made possible due to the effective coordination of officers including SI Ansar N, Jojo George, SCPO Sanal, Satheesan, CPO Neeraj, Driver CPO Unnikrishnan, along with DANSAF team members SI Narayanan Nair, ASI Shaju C. V, SCPO Rajesh, and CPO Shajeesh.
Police have announced that enforcement measures will be further intensified as the festive season draws closer to ensure public safety and prevent illegal activities.
