Madurai, Tamil Nadu: Acting swiftly on a specific tip-off, the Keelavalavu Police successfully cracked down on the illegal sale of out-of-state lottery tickets within the Keelavalavu police station limits in Madurai district, demonstrating their continued vigilance against unlawful activities.
Under the supervision of the Melur Sub-Divisional Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr. Sivakumar, and on the directions of Keelavalavu Police Station Inspector, Mr. Karuppasamy, a patrol team led by Sub-Inspector Mr. Ashokkumar conducted a vehicle check near the Kattakalaippatti bus stop on the night of December 10, 2025. During the patrol, police noticed a white Baleno car parked suspiciously on the roadside and immediately stopped and searched the vehicle.
The search led to the arrest of two persons, Manoharan (52) of Ambalakaranpatti, Melur, Ashok Nagar, Natham, Dindigul district, and Thennarasu (66) of Manappacheri, Melur, Madurai district, who were found in illegal possession of out-of-state lottery tickets intended for sale. Police seized lottery tickets from Assam state valued at approximately ₹77,650, cash amounting to ₹73,910 collected from the sale of tickets, and the white Baleno car used for the offence.
In addition, the police recovered a Lenovo laptop, two Vivo mobile phones, one OnePlus mobile phone, one Itel feature phone, three notebooks, three bill books, and two calculators, all of which were allegedly used in the illegal lottery operation. A case has been registered against the accused at Keelavalavu Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
Senior police officials appreciated the alertness and effective action of the Keelavalavu Police team. The Superintendent of Police, Madurai district, has also issued a stern warning that stringent legal action will be taken against anyone involved in the illegal procurement and sale of out-of-state lottery tickets in the future, including the confiscation of movable and immovable properties of offenders and their relatives, as per law.
The successful operation underscores the Madurai Police’s strong commitment to upholding the law and safeguarding the public from illegal gambling activities.
