Wayanad, Kerala: With the growing dependence on digital devices posing challenges for both children and adults, the Kerala Police has taken a proactive step through its innovative project — ‘D-Dad’ (Digital De-Addiction) — to help curb mobile and internet addiction among children.
Launched by the Kerala Police Social Policing Unit, the D-Dad project aims to guide children away from digital dependency through counseling and awareness programs. This is the first initiative of its kind in India to be introduced by a police department at the national level.
Currently, six counseling centers are operating across various districts in Kerala, providing professional support to affected children. For cases requiring deeper intervention, mental health experts and psychologists are also involved to ensure comprehensive care.
The program conducts awareness classes in schools, addressing the risks of excessive screen use and promoting healthy digital habits. Counseling sessions are also offered for both children and parents, focusing on behavioral issues such as irritability, lack of focus, aggression, and depression linked to digital overuse.
Conducted in collaboration with the Departments of Health, Women and Child Development, and Education, the D-Dad initiative extends its awareness efforts to parents, teachers, and social organizations as well.
Citizens can contact the D-Dad team for assistance at 9497900200. All information shared with the unit will remain strictly confidential.
