Chennai, Tamil Nadu: In line with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for a Drug-Free India (Nasha Mukt Bharat) and under the directives of Hon’ble Union Home Minister, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has recorded two significant victories in its ongoing war against narcotics trafficking.

The NCB Chennai Zonal Unit secured the conviction of two men involved in large-scale interstate ganja trafficking. The case relates to the seizure of 190.6 kg of ganja hidden in a Skoda Octavia at Hotel Munivelu International, Chengalpattu in July 2018.

The contraband was traced to Andhra Pradesh and was being smuggled into Tamil Nadu. The accused, R. Ganesan @ Gnanesan @ Gnaneswaran and Raja @ N. Rajan, both from Cumbum, Theni District, were arrested at the scene. After trial before the Hon’ble I Additional Special Court under NDPS Act, Chennai, the Court on 22.08.2025 sentenced them to 10 years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh each.

Dark net Syndicate Busted – Assets Frozen

In another major success, NCB Chennai dismantled a Dark net-based drug syndicate. Last October, officials seized 129 grams of MDMA (308 pills) and 2.36 grams of LSD blots (125 nos.) at Velachery, Chennai. The key accused and his financer were arrested.

During follow-up financial investigations, NCB froze two bank accounts linked to the financer, blocking ₹18.5 lakhs of illegally acquired funds, ensuring that the syndicate could not profit from its criminal operations.

Zero Tolerance Against Drugs

These back-to-back achievements — the conviction in interstate trafficking and the financial dismantling of a Dark net network — reaffirm NCB’s strong resolve to ensure drug traffickers are punished and deprived of illegal gains.

NCB has urged citizens to support the mission of a Drug-Free India by sharing information on narcotics activities. Citizens can report confidentially on MANAS – National Narcotics Helpline 1933.
