Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, May 2025: In a major crackdown on drug distribution, the Palani Sub-Division Police successfully busted a gang involved in selling ganja to school and college students during the holiday season. The operation was carried out under the direction of Palani Sub-Division Police Superintendent Mr. Dhananjayan, following a tip-off regarding the illicit activity.
Palani Town Inspector Mr. Manimaran assigned Sub-Inspector Mr. Vijay to lead the enforcement effort, along with a dedicated team comprising officers Sivapprakash, Karthik, Senthilkumar, Selvakumaran, Saravanan, and Yuvaraj.
During a routine patrol near the water tank opposite Sivagiripatti on Dindigul Road, the team spotted a suspicious individual loitering near a shrub. Upon further investigation, several persons attempted to flee the scene. SI Vijay and his team gave chase and successfully apprehended all suspects.
The arrested individuals are Gokulakannan (20), son of Pandithurai, Balasamuthiram; Arumugam (22), son of Manikandan, Kuberapattinam; Karthik (23), son of Shanmugam, Kuberapattinam; Mohamed Sheik, son of Abdul Khader, Dhandapani Street, Kuberapattinam; Nagendraprasad (22), son of Bhaskaran, South Anna Nagar, Palani; Saravanakumar (19), son of Selvaraj, Jawahar Nagar, Palani, and Mook Soorya (22), son of Shaktivel, Sathya Nagar, Palani.
The police seized small packets of ganja from the accused, a substance banned under Tamil Nadu law. Cases have been registered, and the individuals have been remanded to judicial custody.
Palani Town Police reaffirmed their commitment to a drug-free community, stating that anti-narcotic operations will continue with full force to eradicate drug peddling and safeguard the future of local youth.
