Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, October 24, 2025: In a strong message against crimes targeting children, the Tirunelveli District POCSO Special Court has sentenced Selvakumar (58), a resident of Ramakrishna Puram, Puliyaurkurichi, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹5,000 for sexually harassing a five-year-old girl from the same locality.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, a case was swiftly registered at the Nanguneri All Women Police Station, and the accused was immediately arrested. The Tirunelveli District POCSO Special Court, after a thorough trial, convicted the accused and also ordered a compensation of ₹3 lakh to be provided to the victim girl.
Tirunelveli District Superintendent of Police, Sri N. Silambarasan, I.P.S., commended the effective coordination and dedicated efforts of the investigation team — particularly Nanguneri Sub-Division Deputy Superintendent of Police, Smt. Dharshika Natarajan, for expediting witness production and ensuring the conviction, and Inspector of Police, Smt. Mangaiyarkarasi, for her meticulous investigation that led to the successful outcome.
SP N. Silambarasan appreciated the teamwork and emphasized that Tirunelveli District Police remain steadfast in their commitment to ensuring the safety of women and children and to bringing offenders to justice without delay.
