Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu: In a strong message against crimes targeting women, the Ramanathapuram District Police have taken swift and decisive action against a man accused of sexually harassing an 18-year-old girl. The incident was reported at Nainarkovil Police Station, where a case was immediately registered against the accused, Poomurugan.
Following his arrest, Poomurugan was initially remanded in judicial custody. To ensure public safety and prevent any recurrence of such offences, the Ramanathapuram District Superintendent of Police, Mr. G. Sandesh, IPS, recommended further action under the Goondas Act.
Acting on the recommendation, Ramanathapuram District Collector, Mr. Simranjeet Singh Kalon, IAS, issued orders to detain the accused under the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Goondas, etc. Act (Goondas Act).
This firm action reflects the commitment of the Ramanathapuram Police to uphold the safety and dignity of women, and sends a clear warning to those who attempt to disrupt law and order.
