Chandigarh, Haryana, August 7: A senior IPS officer from Haryana, Shri Puran Kumar, was found dead at his residence in Sector 11, Chandigarh on Tuesday. According to police sources, the officer is suspected to have died by suicide after allegedly shooting himself.
Senior police officials rushed to the spot upon receiving the information and have initiated an investigation into the incident.
Puran Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer, was earlier serving as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Rohtak Range, before being transferred as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Training Centre, Sunaria, Rohtak, on September 25.
His wife, Smt. Aman P. Kumar, an IAS officer, is currently on an official visit to Japan and is expected to return to India on Wednesday (August 8) evening.
The sudden demise of the senior officer has sent shockwaves through the police fraternity and administrative circles.
