Siliguri: A police officer has shown exemplary courage and an unwavering sense of duty in apprehending a criminal even as he put his own safety at risk.
Assistant sub-inspector Mr. Debasish Das of Pradhanagar Police Station is being hailed as a hero for nabbing a suspected rapist named Gourab Barman alias Gopi, one of the prime accused in the rape of a minor girl back in 2019. The suspect was since absconding.
Upon getting information about the whereabouts of Gopi, a police team quickly headed towards Jamaibazar in the Champasari area. When he spotted the police team, the suspect took to his heels and in his desperation to evade arrest, jumped into the Mahananda river. However, ASI Das was determined not to let him get away so easily and without a second’s hesitation, he too plunged into the river and grabbed the suspect, all the while putting his life at stake.
ASI Mr. Debasish Das has shown unmatched courage and dedication to his duty. His act of bravery deserves rich accolades.
The arrested accused, Gourab Barman alias Gopi has been presented before the Ld Court and taken into police custody for further investigation.
