Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: In a press statement issued by Tirunelveli District Superintendent of Police, Shri N. Silambarasan, I.P.S., it was emphasized that the police are actively undertaking various road safety awareness programs and precautionary measures to help prevent accidents across the district.

The District Police are conducting joint inspections at accident-prone zones in collaboration with other relevant departments, and are implementing suitable preventive steps. Strict enforcement actions are being taken against individuals found driving under the influence of alcohol or violating road regulations, especially when such negligence leads to fatal or serious accidents.

SP Silambarasan highlighted that those who cause death while driving under the influence may face imprisonment of up to 10 years, along with heavy fines. Injury caused due to such reckless driving may result in imprisonment of up to 7 years.

He strongly urged all vehicle users to abide by traffic laws, avoid drunk driving, and act with responsibility and caution while on the road to ensure the safety of all commuters.

“Your awareness and responsibility can save lives — including your own,” the SP added in his appeal.
