Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: As the Diwali festival approaches, Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan, I.P.S., Tirunelveli District, has issued a strong warning to the public about rising online firecracker sale scams.
The SP explained that with the increase in online shopping, cybercriminals are exploiting the festive season by advertising fake websites and apps offering firecrackers at unrealistically low prices. Unsuspecting buyers are tricked into paying money for goods that are never delivered. In some cases, clicking on malicious links or downloading Apk files from such messages results in data theft or WhatsApp hacking.
SP Silambarasan urged citizens to exercise extreme caution when purchasing firecrackers online. He advised buyers to avoid suspicious links, ignore unknown messages, and choose Cash on Delivery (COD) options only from trusted sources.
He further appealed to the public to report any such cyber fraud incidents through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal ([www.cybercrime.gov.in](http://www.cybercrime.gov.in)) or by calling the toll-free number 1930 for immediate assistance.
