Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: In order to completely prevent the sale and smuggling of narcotic substances such as ganja, gutka, and tobacco in Tirunelveli district, the district police are conducting intensive surveillance and patrol operations as per the orders of Tirunelveli District Superintendent of Police, Dr. V. Prasanna Kumar, IPS. Accordingly, on January 10, 2026, while police personnel led by Sub-Inspector Arumugam were on patrol duty in the Pappakudi area, they searched a man named Sorimuthuraj (30) who was standing suspiciously.
It was found that he had hidden ganja for sale. Police Inspector Bharath Lingam registered a case regarding this incident, arrested Sorimuthuraj, and seized 1 kg and 100 grams of ganja from him, and is taking appropriate legal action. To completely prevent the sale and smuggling of narcotic substances like ganja and tobacco, the Government of Tamil Nadu has created the “DrugFreeTN” app. The public is requested to download this app from the Play Store and provide information to the police without hesitation if they have any information regarding the sale of narcotic substances including ganja and tobacco. The district police have stated that the details of those who file complaints will be kept completely confidential. The District Superintendent of Police has warned that strict action will be taken against those who sell and buy narcotic substances such as ganja, gutka, and tobacco in Tirunelveli district.
