Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, May 8, 2025: In a solemn and dignified ceremony, the Thanjavur Police laid to rest 22 unidentified and unclaimed bodies — 17 male and 5 female — with full final honors. The deceased had been recovered over time from various locations falling under the jurisdictions of Thanjavur Medical College Police Station, and the South, West, and East Police Stations.
The cremation ceremony was held at the North Gate Rajagori Cremation Ground, under the leadership and presence of Superintendent of Police (SP) Mr. R. Rajaram, and organized by the Thanjavur Medical College Police Station. The final rites were conducted in accordance with established protocols, ensuring the unclaimed were not forgotten.
Among the officials who participated in this compassionate act were Inspector Chandra (Medical College Police Station), Inspector Kalaivani (West Police Station), Assistant Inspector Muthukumaran, Sub-Inspector Manoharan, and Head Constables Abdullah, Gurumurthy, and Sundaramurthy.
These officers offered floral tributes and final prayers, demonstrating deep reverence and a commitment to upholding human dignity, even in death.
This humanitarian initiative by the Thanjavur Police exemplifies the empathetic and socially responsible face of law enforcement. By extending due respect to those who died without identification or family, the department has sent a powerful message of compassion, duty, and moral leadership.
