Barpeta: In an effort to crackdown on illegal IPL betting, law enforcement authorities in Barpeta district, Assam, detained eight individuals across different police stations on Saturday night. One individual, Aminul Islam from Kamalpur, was apprehended by Barpeta Police Station for selling IPL tickets through the mobile app ‘Skyexch’. In a simultaneous operation by Howly Police Station, Jahidul Islam was arrested for facilitating IPL gambling, while Mantu Das, Diganta Nath, and Sanjay Mudoi were nabbed with multiple mobile phones, gambling records, and Rs.81,750 in cash. Barpeta Road Police Station detained Nurjamal Ali and Mokibul Hussain for selling IPL digits, seizing six IPL double-digit selling books, transaction records, mobile phones, and Rs.2420 in cash. Intaz Ali Pathan was also taken into custody with diaries containing transactional records and Rs.1,69,000 in cash.
In Chirang district’s Kajalgaon Police Station, seven individuals, including Noor Islam, Kazimuddin Mandal, Abdul Jubbar, Abdul Wahhab Sarkar, Taizuddin Sarkar, Halimul Islam, and Motiur Rahman, were apprehended for alleged involvement in illicit IPL betting. The authorities seized a significant amount of cash, multiple mobile phones, five motorcycles, scooters, and various incriminating documents during the raid. These arrests underscore the authorities’ dedication to stamping out illegal IPL betting activities during the season, ensuring fair play and upholding the sport’s integrity.
