Gurugram: Despite the enforcement of the model code of conduct in the district, the Gurugram administration announced on Friday that an unaccounted sum of Rs.10 lakh was confiscated from a vehicle near Gwal Pahari on Thursday. Working collaboratively with the Gurugram police, a flying squad took action to seize the cash from an individual hailing from Uttar Pradesh in the vicinity of Gwal Pahari, as per statements from the district administration. District election officer and deputy commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav disclosed that officials from the Gwal Pahari and DLF Phase One police posts alerted the flying squad about the seizure of Rs.10 lakh from a Hyundai I20 car registered in Uttar Pradesh. The vehicle, suspected of transporting unrecorded cash, was intercepted near Gwal Pahari, Yadav elaborated. From the vehicle, Rs.10 lakh was retrieved, and the driver, identified as Shailendra Agnihotri, a resident of Mohalla Patkana near the Kanauj police post, was apprehended. Upon interrogation, Agnihotri failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the cash, resulting in its transfer to the income tax department. Yadav emphasized that the driver must adhere to regulatory procedures, furnish relevant documentation regarding the seized money, and provide a convincing account before the funds can be returned. Against the backdrop of concerns regarding financial misuse by election candidates or parties, Gurugram district is implementing rigorous vehicle checks in compliance with directives from the Election Commission. Additionally, Gurugram government officials, briefed on the incident, noted that the vehicle in question had violated regulations by applying black film to its windows, leading to a fine of Rs.10,000 being imposed.
